From Albi you walk up-stream in Tarn valley on the GR736 trail through the lightly wooded hills ensuring you have the splendid views on all of Sud-Aveyron with the Monts de Lacaune and the Haut Languedoc in the South.
Hiking along mellow villages in Tarn Valley: Characteristic houses, castles and the "menus du terroir".
Start in nice old pink Unesco World Heritage City of Albi.
The walks start in Albi and through Tarn Valley and the Gorges of the Raspes du Tarn you'll head into the Parc des Grands Causses St. Affrique and Millau (Viaduc de Millau).

The landscape of the Tarn is Mediterranean in character. The beautiful small city of Albi nestles on the River Tarn's banks, dominated by its magnificent cathedral whose fortifications are testimony to more turbulent times during which Albi and surrounding settlements such as Ambialet were attacked first as part of the crusades to suppress the Cathar heresy and later in the Wars of Religion. As you follow the course of the river eastwards, you pass villages of mellow stone-work, and discover the valley unspoiled and full of cultural interest. Staying in comfortable hotels, you will discover the distinctive, rich cuisine of the region, and its excellent wines, such as the flinty Gaillac whites.

Lunches can be ordered at the hotels for the next morning. No shops in Ambialet, Villeneuve sur Tarn, Brousse-le-Château and Castelnau Pégayrols.

Climate: this southern region enjoys a lovely Mediterranean climate, with a hot summer and warm spring and autumn. Temperatures average 19C in May and October, 25C in June and September, and 27C in the height of summer.

ALBI is a beautiful, Southern town along the Tarn river. with a beautiful lively orange-red brick old streets, alike Toulouse, which is only 75 km away, its cathedral (of the times of the Cathars) and its Museum Toulouse Lautrec, it is a perfect start and end for a cultural, gastronomic moderate (walking as well as cycling) vacation.

Walking through the Vallée de l'Amitiee of the Tarn you will be walking to the meander of Tarn River at Ambialet.

Brousse-le-Château

Lovely villages on your way like Plaisance and Coupiac with 16^th century castle and Brousse-le-Chateau at Tarn river with 9^th and 13^th century castle.

You will enjoy the views on the Cevennes mountains, the Monts de Lacaune and even the Pyrénées if the weather is right.

Altitude: 200 - 600m 95 % walking on footpaths.

The walks Albi-Millau H33AM-sup Distances in km

Albi taxi-transfer to Marsal, walk to Ambialet or to Ambialet for the stage to Plaisance.
The day starts with a short transfer out of the city. The route then leads along the south bank of the river, through hamlets and woodland along tracks and country lanes that echo the twists and turns of the river. After a short but quite stiff ascent towards the end of the day, you are rewarded with superb views of the river.

Elevation gains: 3 times 200m+ and 200m-.
Accommodation: Hotel du Pont (3*), Ambialet. Located by the bridge into the village, with gardens leading down to the water's edge, this friendly, comfortable hotel has been run by the same family for over two centuries.

Ambialet - Villeneuve-sur-Tarn (15,6 km) - Plaisance (10 km).
Like the first day's route, this walk keeps south of the river, echoing its course as it leads through woodland and farmland as well as occasional hamlets. During the course of the day, you reach one of the highest points of the walk, with great views of the river as it meanders through the valley. After Villeneuve-sur-Tarn you walk through the Rance valley to Plaisance.

Accommodation: Hostellerie des Magnolias (***), Plaisance Aveyron. A luxury manoir restored with indoor pool.

For a walk of max 15 km you can have a free transfer.

Plaisance - Janolles. Taxi-transfer to Coupiac, walk to Brousse-le-Château (11km) and to Janolles (12km).
Total 23 km.

Janolles - roundwalk to canoebase. Nice light Canoetrip with some easy rapids.

Janolles - St. Affrique: Taxi-transfer to Le Cambon, walk to St. Affrique

Light walk along Tarn river on Voie Verte du Viaduc de Millau (15km) or a moderate walk by the Causse du Larzac. Splendid views on the Millau Viaduct.
