In 2012, the Dordogne river basin was recognized by UNESCO for its outstanding setting and natural heritage and added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Rising in the Massif du Sancy in Auvergne and emptying into the Gironde estuary near Bordeaux, the Dordogne crosses much of south-west France in a westerly direction.
The Causse du Quercy the Gouffre du Padirac and Rocamadour, a Renaissance style village built against the cliff, famous tourist destinations in Lot department .

The Dordogne valley is the start of this cycling tour. From here you go to Rocamadour, the second pilgrim attraction of France. The small canyon of the Gorge de l'Ouysse has some watermills to visit.

From Souillac back to Paris: leave at 07:05 or 09:03 or 13:10. Arrival in Paris after 4h30min.

From Paris at Gare du Nord you walk in 3 minutes to Metro line 5, direction Place d'Italie (Metro every 5 minutes or less). 14 minutes ride to Gare d'Austerlitz.
Walk 3 minutes to the trains.
