Rambling along quiet footpaths is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the diverse beauty of the French countryside. Just a stone’s throw from the iconic Viaduct of Millau, your journey takes you into the Pays de Roquefort—famous for its cheese and caves—and the scenic Tarn Valley. Starting in Millau, you’ll embark on a multi-day loop westward, passing beneath the Millau Viaduct before returning to your starting point.
Traverse a Provence-like landscape as you walk across the Larzac Causse, discovering medieval towns such as St. Rome-de-Luzençon and St. Rome-de-Tarn. In the Tarn Valley, explore Castelnau Pégayrols, a UNESCO-protected site. Along the way, stay in beautiful guesthouses with pools for one or two nights, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
After passing through a secluded hamlet in a dead-end valley and climbing to Montjaux, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Causses, the Cevennes Mountains, and the Millau Viaduct. Like all La Ligne Verte tours, you’ll spend 90% of your walk on tracks and single trails, ensuring an authentic and peaceful experience.
Your route takes you through ancient villages with houses and churches dating back to the 14th century, each with fewer than 200 inhabitants. Millau and St. Affrique, small towns with populations of 10,000 to 20,000, provide essential amenities, while farms dot the landscape between villages.
